The Number of Overseas Buyers and Turnover of Export both Increased in the First Phase of the 106th Session of the Canton Fair

The first phase of the 106th session of the Canton fair closed successfully on Oct.19th, 2009. According to Chen Chaoren, the Deputy Director General and spokesman of China Import and Export Fair, the number of overseas buyers and turnover of export in the first phase of the 106th session both witnessed an increase. The number of overseas buyers reached 92,000, increased by 11.4% than that of the Spring Fair this year and increased by 5.4% than that of the Autumn Fair last year. The total turnover of export achieved USD 15.58 billion, going up by 19.6% than that of the Spring Fair this year and decreased by 5.3% than that of the Autumn Fair last year.

The phase I of the 106th session saw an active attendance of oversea buyers. Statistics showed the numbers of overseas buyers from Asia, America and Oceania reached 53,311, 12,058 and 2,750 respectively, 7.1%, 17.9% and 17.5% up than that of the previous session. Compared with that of the previous session, the number of overseas buyers from Europe reached 14,906, with a relatively high rise of 38.8%, while the number of African buyers was 8,901, a decrease of 4.7%.

In terms of buyer attendance, the top 5 countries and regions were Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, Iran, USA and Taiwan Province, whose figures reached 10661, 4448, 4211, 3880 and 3775 respectively.

Chen Chaoren added that the turnover of export in phase I was positive. The turnover of Machinery and Electronic Products stood at USD 13.45 billion, accounting to 86.4% of the total and growing by 20% over that of the previous session. Household Electrical Appliances took the majority in terms of turnover, with a turnover of USD 5.3 billion. It accounted for 34% of the total, and rose by 11.7%. Consumer Electronics saw a biggest increase of export, whose turnover reached USD 1.26 billion, up by 62.9% compared with the previous session. Besides, the turnover of Hardware, Transportation Tool, Building and Decoration Materials, Electronic and Electrical Products all witnessed an increase of over 20%.

The turnover of private enterprises, state-owned enterprises and foreign-funded enterprises reached USD 10.24 billion, USD 2.79 billion and USD 2.55 billion respectively, accounting for 65.7%, 17.9% and 16.4% of the total respectively, increased by 23.2%, 9.2%and 18.2% respectively over the previous session.

The E.U., Middle East and U.S.A. remained the top 3 in terms of turnover, which reached USD 3.82 billion, USD 2.77 billion and USD 1.81 billion respectively, increased by 34.7%, 7.2% and 16.7% respectively than that of the previous session. The turnover of the above-mentioned Top 3 accounted for 53.9% of the total.

In terms of trading delegations, the turnover of Guangdong Province, Zhejiang Province and Shandong Province ranked the top 3. Their turnover reached USD 6.18 billion, USD 1.94 billion and USD 1.44 billion respectively.

The turnover achieved in the Brand Zone accumulated to USD 6.9 billion, increased by 32.2% compared to the previous session this year, accounting for 44.3% of the total. Besides, the visit to the Canton Fair official website added up to 39,197 million times, with an increase of 4% compared to the previous session. The intended turnover of online transaction reached USD 15.67 million, increased by 17.2% than the previous session.

The second phase of the fair will be held from Oct. 23rd to 27th in the Pazhou Complex. The exhibits will be divided into 3 categories of “Consumer Goods”, “Gifts”, “Home Decorations”, and will be shown in 16 exhibition sections.
